βοΈ MECHANISM OF ACTION
Fluconazole acts by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14-alpha demethylase, which is required for the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. Ergosterol is a critical component of fungal cell membranes. Its depletion disrupts the membrane structure, leading to impaired cellular function and fungal cell death. Topical delivery ensures a high local concentration, making it effective even against resistant fungi.
